Aim and Scope

International Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IJBM) of Sciforce Publications. The Journal Deals with the study of the molecular basis of biological activity between biomolecules that is present in the various systems of a cell, which includes the interactions between DNA, RNA and proteins, as well as the regulation of all these interactions. A steroid is also an organic compound which has four rings that are arranged in a specific configuration. This includes the dietary lipid cholesterol, testosterone and the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone. A steroid is a biologically active organic compound with four rings arranged in a specific molecular configuration. Steroids have two principal biological functions: as important components of cell membranes which alter membrane fluidity; and as signaling molecules. Hundreds of steroids are found in plants, animals and fungi. All steroids are manufactured in cells from the sterols lanosterol "opisthokonts" or cycloartenol "plants". Lanosterol and cycloartenol are derived from the cyclization of the triterpene squalene. The steroid core structure is typically composed of seventeen carbon atoms, bonded in four "fused" rings: three six-member cyclohexane rings and one five-member cyclopentane ring. Steroids vary by the functional groups attached to this four-ring core and by the oxidation state of the rings. Sterols are forms of steroids with a hydroxy group at position three and a skeleton derived from cholestane. Steroids can also be more radically modified, such as by changes to the ring structure, for example, cutting one of the rings.

The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is dedicated to new theoretical and experimental developments in areas which are related to steroids. The Journal publishes various contributions, which includes the original articles, focused views and general reviews, book chapters, letters and short communications, rapid communications, and abstracts . Manuscripts that are related to unsolved issues in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, clinical medicine, steroid chemistry and molecular medicine are always encouraged. Both the basic and clinical areas of research come within the scope of the Journal, only if they address mechanisms or give a functional explanation of the processes involving steroids. The Journal always aims to enhance the understanding, and the development of approaches that are done to study, the interplay between the genomes, environment, disease and metabolism. A further goal of the Journal is to provide tools related to steroid-, analysis and synthesis methods, and reference data.

Manuscripts that are related to unsolved issues in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, clinical medicine, steroid chemistry and molecular medicine are always encouraged. Topic related to aspects like steroid cancers or neurosteroids are always within the scope of the Journal. Contributions in the case studies or descriptions of any new compounds should provide new functional data.
